# Prerequisites

Before you can use Microsoft SQL Server as a source in a Qlik Compose project, make sure that the following prerequisites have been met:

* Microsoft SQL Server should be configured with the required [Permissions](https://help.qlik.com/en-US/compose/December2024/Content/ComposeDWDL/Main/DW/Data%20Source%20Connections/data_source_permissions.htm) and accessible from the Compose machine.

* Microsoft SQL Server Native Client must be installed on the Qlik Compose machine.

  * Enterprise Edition
  * Standard Edition
  * Workgroup Edition
